'Nature Bathing' - Moldavite + Diopside

In the heart of northeastern Ontario, is Lake of the Woods, my summertime home away from home. A simple off-grid island cottage, surrounded by water, rocks, and dense coniferous forest.

In the morning, you can find me working on the land, in the gardens, or clearing bush. 

In the afternoon, I often take up residence on the sandy beach at the end of our cove.

Every now and again, I walk out into the lake, and gently slip below the water’s surface. Eyes open in the crystal clear, emerald green water, I exhale enough air to sink downward. Suspended somewhere between the surface and the lake bottom is where everything becomes still. Silent. Weightless. Everything moves so slowly in this underwater realm… until a curious fish, or turtle swim by.

I remember one time swimming in the depths of the back bay, diving down about 10 feet, then turning over and looking up, towards the surface. Green water penetrated by scintillating sunlight… dancing golden rays in a lake of moss green. And right in front of my face, my silver chain with a small Moldavite pendant sparkling like a fishing lure. The green of the Moldavite perfectly matching the water. I was captivated.

Returning to the surface with my senses sharpened, I took in my surroundings: a thick coniferous forest, an eagle perched on the tip of a tree observing my every move, the clear blue vault of the sky overhead, and a deep sense of peace and tranquility emanating from my being.
 
This piece was created from that memory and the aliveness that I felt in that moment, surrounded by a seemingly endless array of green.
